Inside Ancient Egypt, a permanent exhibition at Chicago's Field Museum, takes you through a life-size Egyptian mastaba tomb as you explore two of the original chambers from the tomb of nobleman Unis-ankh. On view are more than 1,400 rare artifacts and priceless treasures of ancient Egyptian civilizations, including statues, hieroglyphics, burial offerings and even a funerary boat. Several mummies and the secrets of the mummification process are also presented. .

The Museum's popular overnight program will feature the theme of ancient Egypt for the nights scheduled during the project period. Summer programs for visitors will include workshops, music, and storytelling relating to Ancient Egypt. Supplementary programming will utilize the Museum's Egyptian Hieroglyph interpretive cart where visitors can learn about this phonetic language in a hands-on-activity.

 

 

Tip: There is a McDonald’s in the Field to which children will gravitate as if demonstrating the relationship of tidal action to the pull of the moon. Fortunately for those of us whose taste buds have successfully made it past puberty, a Corner Bakery has been installed on the ground floor. A mayonnaise-free turkey sandwich may be just the thing for those young people with a discriminating palate.

The Field is open Monday through Sunday from 9 to 5; adult admission is $7; seniors, children 3-17, and students with ID are $4. The Field is free on Wednesdays.
