
Chicago has its own acclaimed dance companies ranging from
the Trinity Irish Dancers and the Muntu Dance Theatre of Chicago
to The Joffrey Ballet of Chicago. In addition to many
Chicago-based companies who spend part of the year performing
here, there are visiting dance companies from all over the
world.
Hubbard Street Dance Chicago - 1147 West Jackson
Blvd., 312.850.9744. Hubbard Street Dance Chicago was founded in
1977 by dancer and choreographer Lou Conte, who remains the
company’s artistic director. The company’s 20 culturally
diverse dancers perform to audiences all over the world each
year.
The Joffrey Ballet of Chicago -

1300, 312.739.0120. The Joffrey Ballet began in 1956 with
co-founders Robert Joffrey and Gerald Lupino’s unique American
vision of dance. The company performs in more than 400 cities in
the United States and in countries all over the world. The
Joffrey Ballet will appear at the Auditorium Theatre (March
16-26) for its Spring season.

This dance company was established in 1989 to promote
Chicago’s jazz dance talent. Both the dancers and the company
as a whole have received much acclaim over the past ten years,
in Chicago and on national tours.
Trinity Irish Dance Company - 6655 N. Avondale,
773.594.1115. This Irish American dance company was founded
in 1990 by Artistic Director Mark Howard as the birthplace of progressive
Irish dance. The company, made up of 22 dancers
between the ages of 18 and 24, performs on stages throughout the
world.
Muntu Dance Theatre of Chicago -
6800 S. Wentworth, 773.602.1135. Since its inception in 1972, this dance
company has performed authentic and progressive contemporary and
ancient African and African American dance, music and folklore.
